Alice, Darling Reviews
Could have shown true psychological abuse much better. Did not capture the evil whatsoever
As someone that has experienced these struggles if the story doesn't hit home, then the writer of the movie will absolutely miss 100% of all other targeted audience members out there. So it's sort of bad form on Hollywood's side to budget for the movie. HOWEVER, it is also very ballsy and I give them props for that! Hollywood openly knew that they'd miss a large portion of their targets, deliberately put a highly nominated actress into the starring role, which she played WELL! to say the least, and ALL to spread awareness of the internal, emotional, and psychological abuse one goes through when in a relationship with a narcissists... at least her character was only dating one... but that a whole other story, best to you all
Trailer made it seem like a true thriller…. It was anything but. Super slow, acting subpar, really not much happens…. Super disappointed.
At 53, I have NEVER left a review on a movie. This was so bad that I'm actually sad that I wasted two hours of my life that I will never get back!
Seriously the worst movie I've ever seen. Extremely disappointed that I even wasted my money on it.
It felt so genuine, with a slow yet telling build with realistic portrayal of emotions. I've had friends in similar relationships and this hit the nail on the head. With abusive relationships it doesn't always seem like black and white. I recommend watching this!
I felt like I kept saying "it will get better" throughout the entire movie. I kept waiting for something to happen. Probably one of the worst movies I've seen.
It goes wrong from the sign start, and never ends the agony till ends.
Anyone who has been in an emotional abusive relationship can relate to everything Anna Kendrick goes through in this film. Hard to watch, but really great.
I think that Ann Kendrick is a great actress. But I think the film itself wasn't much of a thriller. The beginning of the story line was enough to keep you watching but they never added anything exciting. I can't see the signs of abuse from the boyfriend ad if anything I was questioning wether Alice was the abuser with the way she acted. The ending sucked. Not worth the watch.
Potential abounds. Unfulfilled. Total POS ending. Simon deserved the maul.
We didn't see him do one abusive thing the whole movie. It's hard to take the womans side when you don't see any of the abuse. Terrible movie would not recommend.
This movie has powerful messages. Kendrick is an excellent, though underrated actor and she showcases that here. It's not an easy movie to watch, especially if there has been emotional trauma in one's life. However, it isn't truly meant to entertain. It's meant to make the viewer uncomfortable in hopes that he/she can sit with the discomfort until they understand themselves a little better.
Like waiting for a bus that never showed up. There is very little to the story and critics like usual rate it high so that they can pretend they are intellectuals and that you are not sophisticated enough to understand. Save your time.
Hits close to home. It's so hard to explain emotional abuse until you have actually lived through it. Beautiful performance. If only real life had such a powerful support system to escape cruel people.
The movie has a good message and Anna Kendrick is great but the storytelling undermines the effectiveness of the message.
I really wanted this to be better than it was, but it just got more and more boring as the movie went on.
This is uncomfortable to watch because it feels too personal. And it hits too close to home. This will not go well with others but it represents and shed a light to us who were emotionally and psychologically abused by our partners.
Perfect depiction of emotional abuse.
Acting was phenomenal. You could feel the tension from the start. Definite must see.
