What to Know

Critics Consensus

Red Eye is watchable enough as a forgettable potboiler, but its goofy twists and turns are often stale as airline cuisine.

Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) Still, there’s just enough to keep you guessing. Red Eye takes itself seriously, but you don’t have to. Rated: 3/5 May 3, 2024 Full Review Hugo Rifkind The Times (UK) It works, ticks along, none of the plot holes really matter. You will enjoy this. You will also have forgotten it within a month. May 3, 2024 Full Review Carol Midgley The Times (UK) So far this flight from hell is entertaining, tense and obviously daft. Rated: 3/5 May 3, 2024 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk The longer it goes on, the sillier Red Eye gets. Rated: 2/5 May 6, 2024 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) As thrillers go, Red Eye sits on the part of the spectrum that houses Air Force One, with occasional blasts of Airplane! It’s Sunday night ludicrous, but enjoyably so, and you learn a thing or two as well. May 3, 2024 Full Review Aidan Smith Scotsman Nolan is played by Richard Armitage who’s good at bumptious and excellent at priggish. Apr 30, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I honestly don't think it's that bad of a series. It's self-contained with generally good acting and a semi-interesting plot. It's not going to win any Oscars (not that those actually matter). At one point I thought "But they don't have enough fuel" ... and they addressed that immediately, saying they had enough ... whatever. Is it a believable story? I don't know. Most likely not, but so is pretty much every movie and series. People keep complaining that there's a series of more and more unbelievable situations on board the plane ... but thinking about it, it mostly works out. It's not any more unbelievable than any other spy thrillers like Mission Impossible or Bourne. In the first episode I thought I was in for a stupid ride, though. The "white privilege" comment was just so ... 2020+. And so unnecessary. Also, DC Li's actions are a bit inconsistent if you ask me. She's either bitchy or too trusting. Don't expect the twists to be really too twisty, though ... you know with every episode that there's even more to the conspiracy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/25 Full Review Harpa J It's scary to see how many things in this show are reflected by things happening in the world today. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Fuzzy D 37 minutes into the 1st episode and the main character is being lectured about the fact he can't possibly be a victim because he has 'white privilege'. I instantly turn off. If I wanted lectures I'd go back to university. I watch shows for entertainment and this isn't it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review andrew k Made it to episode 3 but nothing is making me want to continue. Starting to get ridiculous . Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Audience Member Doesn't work as a serious spy thriller. Best enjoyed as a cozy location murder whodunit. Likable main cast. Pan-chinese cultural theme felt as inauthentic as the spycraft, you could tell the writers were not too familiar with either. Nobody really spoke mandarin in the support cast either, which doesn't matter but underscores a "murder, she wrote" episode feeling. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Jan H clever story, a lot of plottwists, but never silly. good acting. solid 8/10 thriller story.
