George Merritt
George Merritt was a big screen film actor known for powerful performances. Merritt's career in acting began with his roles in various films like "Doctor Syn" (1937), "Young and Innocent" (1937) and the comedy "Clouds Over Europe" (1939) with Lawrence Olivier. He also appeared in the drama "The Alibi" (1943) with Margaret Lockwood, "The Green Scarf" (1954) with Michael Redgrave and the Brian Donlevy adaptation "Enemy From Space" (1957). He kept working in film throughout the fifties and the seventies, starring in the Peter Cushing horror film "Horror of Dracula" (1958), the crime adaptation "Tread Softly Stranger" (1958) with Diana Dors and "The Full Treatment" (1961) with Claude Dauphin. He also appeared in the biopic drama "Cromwell" (1970) with Richard Harris. He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "The Persuaders!" (ABC, 1971-72). Merritt was most recently credited in "Spinning Into Butter" (2009). Merritt passed away in August 1977 at the age of 87.
