American DJ, music producer, executive and CEO Irv Gotti was born in Queens, New York City. Under the moniker DJ Irv, Gotti produced the song "Can I Live" (1996) for Jay Z's debut album. He went on to co-produce DMX's first studio album the following year. After the success of both albums, Gotti started his own label, Murder, Inc. In the following years, he produced Ja Rule's first two albums and released a compilation of the label's roster, "Irv Gotti Presents The Inc" (2002). After a public feud with other record labels, Murder Inc. had its name changed to The Inc. Under the new name, Gotti signed Vanessa Carlton and produced her third album, "Heroes and Thieves" (2007). In 2013, Murder Inc. was relaunched as an umbrella label under Irv Gotti's new label, Visionary. Irv Gotti died on February 5, 2025 at the age of 54.
