Jon Finch
British actor Jon Finch's career has been built upon his roles in adaptations of Shakespearean plays--most notably his title role in Roman Polanski's unconventional interpretation of "Macbeth." Though Finch's power-hungry performance came out unscathed, some criticized the film for being crude, one-dimensional, and pedestrian. In addition to Shakespearean dramas, Finch also acted in a number of thrillers and mysteries--including costarring in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Frenzy" as a man falsely accused of murder. Another notable role in the genre was in "Death on the Nile," a Hercule Poirot mystery starring Peter Ustinov with a star-studded ensemble; Finch played a communist who was one of many suspects in the movie's centerpiece murder. In 2005, Finch played the Catholic patriarch of Jerusalem in Ridley Scott's epic Crusades movie "Kingdom of Heaven." Finch had tried to collaborate with Scott before--he was originally cast for the memorable role John Hurt played in 1979's "Alien"--but had to drop out due to complications from diabetes.
