A writer and director, New Jersey native Josh Sternfeld began his cinematic career while pursuing his graduate studies at Tisch School of the Arts in New York City. Sternfeld's first dramatic short, "Balloons, Streamers," debuted in 1997, receiving positive notes at various film festivals, including Sundance. His second short, 1999's "Colin's Date," starring Lars Engstrom as the title character, further established him as a budding filmmaker. He went on to develop a script for his next project at the Sundance Institute in Utah, which turned out to be a full-length movie that garnered the interest of numerous well-known actors. The resulting 2004 drama, "Winter Solstice," featured an ensemble cast that starred Anthony LaPaglia as a troubled widower and father, and also included Allison Janney, Michelle Monaghan, and Aaron Stanford, among other performers. Six years later, Sternfeld returned with his second movie, "Meskada," a small-town drama that follows a young detective, portrayed by Nick Stahl, as he investigates the murder of a boy, which is possibly tied in to other crimes in the area. The film also featured a number of up-and-coming actors including Kellan Lutz of "Twilight" fame and Rachel Nichols, a star of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," as well as Grace Gummer, one of Meryl Streep's daughters.
