Laurieann Gibson was a Canadian choreographer, director and singer born on July 14, 1969 in Toronto, Ontario. Gibson trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and entered show business as a Fly Girl dancer on "In Living Color" (Fox, 1990-94) from 1993 to 1994. She began her choreography career in 1997 with the music video of Missy Elliot's "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)." Since then, she has choreographed numerous music videos and tours for artists like Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga. Gibson choreographed the dance film "Honey" (2003), which starred Jessica Alba, and released her debut album "Addictive" in 2006. Her creative partnership with Lady Gaga began in 2008, resulting in choreography for multiple tours and music videos. Gibson co-directed the "Judas" and "You and I" music videos for Gaga, and directed the concert special "Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden" (HBO, 2011). Gibson was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special for her work on the special. Shortly afterward, however, Gibson and Gaga severed their creative partnership. Gibson also served as a judge on the short-lived "P. Diddy's Starmaker"(MTV, 2009), a follow up of sorts to Diddy's reality competition series "Making the Band" (MTV, 2000-09) on which Gibson had also served since 2005. In 2012, she released her second album "Last Chance." Gibson continued to choreograph various music videos, tours and live events for artists like Nicki Minaj. She coached briefly on "Dance Moms" (Lifetime, 2011-present) in 2017, and starred in her own reality series called "Laurieann Gibson: Beyond the Spotlight" (Lifetime, 2018).
