Morven Christie
Morven Christie was a Scottish stage, film and TV actress who became well known to American audiences in 2016 with her starring role in the BBC drama "The A Word" (BBC, 2016- ). Born in Helensburgh and raised in the bustling city of Glasgow, Christie always had a desire to act. As a young woman she made her dream a reality by moving to cosmopolitan London to study acting under the revered teacher Reuven Adiv at the Drama Centre London. Christie spent four years at the university, where she honed her acting craft while also learning how to perform before a live audience. Upon her graduation in 2003, Christie wasted no time in auditioning for film and TV roles. She initially nabbed small parts in British television movies like "The Second Quest" (2004) and "Quite Ugly One Morning" (2004), before moving on to the film world in the mid-2000s with supporting roles in "House of 9" (2005) and "The Flying Scotsman" (2006). With her screen acting career picking up steam, Christie also continued to appear in plays on London's West End, most notably in a 2008 Sam Mendes-directed production of Tom Stoppard's "The Cherry Orchard." By the late 2000s, Christie's screen acting career continued to thrive. In addition to appearing in the critically acclaimed BBC mini-series "Oliver Twist" (BBC, 2007), she also earned critical praise for her roles in the films "Shell" (2012) and "Lilting" (2014). Christie also appeared in two episodes of the celebrated British series "Doctor Who" (BBC, 1963- ) in 2015, which earned her legions of new fans. After over a decade as a professional actor, however, her big break came in 2016 when she starred in the British TV drama "The A Word." The series debuted on the BBC in March of 2016, and was renewed for a second season by the network in May of that year.
