Birthday: Aug 15, 1950

Birthplace: London, England, UK

Princess Anne, who holds the title of Princess Royal, was born Aug. 15, 1950, at Clarence House in London. She is younger sister to Princes Charles and the only daughter to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. She is currently 13th in line to the throne. Anne's early education was provided to her by a governess, and as a child she was an enthusiastic member of the Girl Guides. Beginning in 1963, she attended Benenden School, where she lived as a boarder until leaving school in 1968. She finished with six GCE O-Levels and two A-Levels. Anne married her first husband, Mark Phillips, on Nov. 25, 1973. They had two children, Zara and Peter Phillips, but would later separate in 1989, with their divorce being finalized in 1992. Several months later, in Dec. 1992, Anne married Sir Timothy Laurence, who was then a Commander (and is now a Vice Admiral) in the Royal Navy. Anne was the victim of a kidnapping attempt in 1974. Although the attempt was thwarted by Anne's guards and a passerby, this led to much higher levels of security for the Royal Family. Anne has been a skilled equestrian since she was a child and has ridden competitively. She won the European Eventing Championship in 1971, and that same year was voted Sports Personality of the Year by the BBC. She was also part of the British team at the 1976 Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, the only member of the Royal Family to have competed in the Olympics. Anne also does extensive charity work, and serves as patron to over 200 charitable organizations, including Save the Children, WISE, and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, the latter of which she founded in 1991. She is also, among many other honors, Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, succeeding her father, Prince Philip, in the position.
