The challenge for many (if not most) child actors is rising above their early roles and carrying on as an adult in an industry that often pigeonholes performers into a specific, unflinching mold. It's an even tougher challenge whenever your earliest (and most noteworthy) roles are found in flops. Actor Sean Fitzgerald has struggled throughout his career to find that one true breakout role: As a child, he made his debut (as many youngsters do) with a role as a flashback character. In the 1993 dramedy "Calendar Girl," Fitzgerald played "Six-Year-Old Roy," the younger version of a character played by '90s heartthrob Jason Priestley. That might have been a noteworthy role due to Priestley's star status, but the film itself failed to make an impression with audiences or critics. For his follow-up, Fitzgerald transitioned to television, appearing in four episodes of the extremely short-lived crime-drama "Second Chances," but his true chance for breakout stardom came with his 1996 starring role in the family-oriented film adventure "Storybook." Though the project featured the talents of actors Swoosie Kurtz and Milton Berle, the resulting film was helplessly goofy, failing to leave a lasting impression. Following that one starring role, Fitzgerald again found himself working in the shadows, appearing briefly in the animated film adventure "Osmosis Jones" and an episode of the documentary series "The American Experience."
