Tanya Moodie was raised in Ottawa, Canada by her Jamaican parents in an environment that encouraged creativity. She was accepted to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and went to study there just after she turned 18. After graduating, Moodie went straight to work, appearing in a number of UK theater projects, as well as her first onscreen credits in recurring roles on "So Haunt Me" (BBC1, 1992-1994), and Neil Gaiman's miniseries "Neverwhere" (BBC2, 1996) and nominated for an Olivier Award for her role in the 2014 production of "Intimate Apparel." After a number of guest roles, Moodie gained notice in a recurring role on "Prime Suspect 6: The Last Impression" (ITV, 1991-2006). In 2008, she began a 2-year run as s a series regular on the British medical drama "The Clinic" (RTE One, 2003-09). She gained international exposure in 2010, when she debuted on "Sherlock" (BBC1/PBS, 2010-) playing John Watson's therapist, a role she would reprise in many episodes of the series. In 2018, Moodie premiered in her recurring role on the supernatural drama "A Discovery of Witches" (Sky One, 2018-), as well as a series regular part on the comedy "Enterprice" (BBC1, 2018-).
