Dave S After being falsely accused of murder, Professor Jim Tanner (George Hamilton) embarks on a search for the true killer, a colleague with an exceptionally high IQ who kills telepathically. The Power is all a bit silly, clearly, but all of the silliness pales in comparison to the outrageously ridiculous climax, a psychedelic whirlwind that can only be appreciated if you're tripping on acid. Hamilton, as always, is supremely well tanned, Suzanne Pleshette is alluring as the romantic sidekick, and…well, that's about all that it really has to offer. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review joe m You wouldn't think it to read the quick synopsis and by the cover art, yet "The Power" turned out to be a fantastic sci-fi suspense thriller. It starts out kind of cheesy, with Professor Tanner (a young - and very hot - George Hamilton) being required to show some government suit as to some research he's doing at some institute. After a rather boring beginning, the movie really picks up after one research is killed and Tanner is discredited. There is a mysterious 'power' at work and Tanner, with help from Suzanne Pleshett, is going to find out! The acting is ok, yet the California scenery, the sets and the whole 1960's vibe is fantastic. The alkaline flats and the kitchen convention sequences are not to be missed! And overall, the plot is well developed and paced leading to an ending that keeps you sort of guessing right to the end - though I must add, and this cost 1/2 a star, the ending is a little muddled. "The Power" turned out to be a movie that I'm glad I stumbled upon. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Colorful supernatural thriller from producer George Pal has George Hamilton playing a scientist who discovers someone on his team has telekinetic powers and is killing off members one by one. Police investigating the first murder believe Hamilton lied about his background and is now a suspect after no one can find any evidence of his academic records. Hamilton must then figure out and stop whoever it is is using their powers to ruin his him and who is killing off his colleagues. "The Power" features some cool 1960s psychedelic special effects, a nice score by golden age composer Miklós Rózsa, a solid mystery, and a cool psychic showdown finale. Not a classic, but pretty entertaining stuff and a bit more serious than most of producer Pal's usual output. Suzanne Pleshette also appears in the film as a fellow scientist helping Hamilton. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Bernard K This movie is horrible. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/13/17 Full Review Audience Member Decent sci-fi on good premise but cops out at end as many do--Power corrupts!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorites from childhood. Sure, it's cheesy, but you don't think of cheesy when you're little. This is one of the films that helped fuel my interest in surrealism Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
