Jeff M Comic perfection! I fell head over heels in love with this movie the first time I saw it over 30 years ago, and it remains one of my favorite comedies of all time. Martin and Tomlin are a comedy dream team, and it breaks my heart that they didn't make any more movies together. Martin gives a brilliant physical comedy performance that would have made Chaplin proud. He deserved an Oscar nomination! Tomlin is a national treasure and deserves to be regarded as one of the finest comic actors who ever lived. But what makes this such a rarity is the phenomenal group of supporting performers that orbit this dynamic duo. Rather than resting on the laurels of its leads, this film has rich, wonderfully funny and memorable characters surrounding them who help lift it to a whole different level of excellence. And I can't think of another movie ending that has ever left me on such a high - listening to Joe Williams' immortal version of the titular song while watching Martin and Tomlin together, you leave this movie practically floating on air. This is a definite all-timer! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Alec B Martin's physical comedy is top notch here and while the premise is a bit undercooked, the movie is undeniably charming. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Lisa L The courtroom scene alone is worth the price of admission. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/08/23 Full Review isla s This is a madcap comedy film with Steve Martin being another typically zany character. Some scenes/elements reminded me a little of the Jim Carrey film Liar Liar, with him in the courthouse. If you're looking for some decent visual comedy, a fair few easy laughs and the like, then this is for you. I'd recommend it on that basis. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review r b This has got to be Steve Martin's most brilliant performance. Jason Bernard was also great in his supporting role. Tim Pulleine Guardian Once the body-snare joke is under way, however, invention tends to flag and much of the ensuing humour explores the realms of fairly obvious smut -- brightly enough managed, though, if yon have a weakness for that. Jan 22, 2020 Full Review Geoff Brown Times (UK) At first the film is content to play the situation for raucous laughs, trading on the embarrassment of two sexes sharing the same body. But, once the parties start experiencing finer feelings, the film finally becomes too awkward for comfort. Jan 22, 2020 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times Most of the film is about as funny as falling off a cliff while trying to solve a crossword puzzle. Jan 22, 2020 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews An absurd fantasy comedy, based on a dumb premise. Rated: C Aug 3, 2020 Full Review John Bemrose Maclean's Magazine Martin is hilarious as the man who has to cope with a suddenly split identity. Jan 23, 2020 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a decidedly out-there premise that's employed to watchable yet far-from-memorable effect by filmmaker Carl Reiner...
