Vanya Nevakovich (Sergej Trifunovic) is an ex-Yugoslavian soldier turned reluctant criminal in New York City for what is supposed to be his last job -- a seemingly mundane drug deal. In a bizarre coincidence, the assignment leads him to cross paths with his ex-wife, Anna (Geno Lechner), with whom he is still obsessively in love, and her boyfriend, Dirk (Peter Gevisser), a police officer. When the deal goes horribly awry, Vanya takes Anna hostage, and the two reflect on their tumultuous past.

John Anderson Variety The action is compelling, the film good looking, the acting first rate and the circumstances -- people from neglected nations in an alienating if not hostile urban landscape -- is moving. Mar 16, 2006 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter The film is an atmospheric and complex thriller that, while not quite living up to its thematic ambitions, more than sustains interest along the way. Mar 16, 2006 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post The story unfolds in nonlinear fashion, with the same events being shown several times, from different perspectives. The concept works especially well with the murder spree that sets up the movie. Rated: 3/4 Feb 17, 2006 Full Review Maitland McDonagh TV Guide Serbian cinematographer Vladimir Subotic's photography transforms New York's outlying neighborhoods and anonymous streets into a weather-beaten dreamscape suffused with mystery, danger and the hope of heaven.
