Critics Consensus

Despite the best efforts of a talented cast, The Other Man is talky, witless, and tension-free.

Amy Biancolli Houston Chronicle The result is B-grade cheese. The only genuine mystery, for me, is why such a fine cast signed on for such a witless movie. Rated: 1/4 Sep 25, 2009 Full Review Cary Darling Dallas Morning News Everyone seems as if they're going through the motions. Rated: 2/5 Sep 25, 2009 Full Review Rex Reed Observer Despite the gimlet eye of Richard Eyre, former director of England's Royal National Theatre, and the top-echelon talents of an impressive cast, a dreary, disabled disaster called The Other Man drops dead at the starting gate. Sep 23, 2009 Full Review Alex Lindsey Jones Moviedex A manipulative bore of a film. Liam Neeson is better than this and so are you. Rated: 1/5 Oct 24, 2010 Full Review David Cornelius DVDTalk.com A good character study lost in the haze of bad thriller gimmickry. Nota: 5 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review CT 8 So basically it’s a movie about a man (Liam Neeson) who finds out after her death his wife (Laura Linney) was cheating on him. And cheating on him with a loser who’s a janitor (Antonio Banderas) pretending to be a wealthy businessman. And so lacking in morals and character is his wife that she doesn’t even have the decency of telling him about her infidelity while he’s there taking care of her every day through the final stages of her cancer. Neeson then takes it upon himself to pretend to befriend this loser while he’s plots his revenge. Ultimately scrapping those plans and attending a memorial in her honour organized by her lover. You can’t make this stuff up. This might be one of the stupidest, out of touch with reality movies I’ve ever had the misfortune to watch. And that’s saying something. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/25 Full Review Daniel G Considering the experience of the actors - Liam, Antonio and Laura - this was a disappointment. The suspense wasn't much of one, the photos and the repeated scenes from the past were a nuisance, the moments of silence bored more than created stronger emotion for the characters. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review jelisije j A man finds out his wife of 25 years has been cheating on him and he goes into the other mans life and ultimately decides what will be this other mans fate... I made it sound better then the movie actually was. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It's okay, it's alright. I waited for something big to happen, and it very mildly did. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Disgrace for Liam Neeson and other actors. Should've watched Taken or Unknown again. Waste of time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
