Brian Weathersby (Paul Dano), a mattress salesman with successful siblings, wants to get more out of life. He makes a decision to adopt a child, and, as he begins the process, strange events begin to occur. First, Brian starts to think he's being stalked. Then the unconventional daughter of one of his customers -- Harriet Happy Lolly (Zooey Deschanel) -- begins hanging around. Brian must prepare for potential fatherhood while dealing with Happy's overbearing father, Al (John Goodman).
