Critics Consensus

Blind Date has all the ingredients for a successful madcap comedy, but the end results suggest director Blake Edwards has lost his once-reliable touch.

George Morris Chicago Reader Rambo, the family Great Dane, provides the film with some of its funniest visual and aural gags. Rated: 4/4 May 9, 2022 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times Comic possibilities are everywhere in Blind Date, and the tireless Mr. Edwards leaves none of them unexploited. May 20, 2003 Full Review Rita Kempley Washington Post What this movie needs is Cybill Shepherd playing hard to get. Or anybody playing hard to get. Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Cathy Burke United Press International There are pratfalls aplenty and enough animal antics to elicit a few giggles, but Willis and Basinger never quite bring the necessary spark to the roles and the film disappears as fast as a bag of popcorn. Nov 8, 2016 Full Review Dustin Putman TheFilmFile.com [Blu-ray Review] Increasingly contrived and longwinded at just 95 minutes, this is the kind of film that has been helmed with skill despite lackluster material. Benjamin W Absolutely Hilarious. I don’t understand why it’s so universally panned when it’s nonstop laughs. The runtime might be super short, but Bruce Willis absolutely shines through with his comedic touch. I’d give it an unbiased 9.1/10 as far as comedies go, but I’ll compensate for the lacking sense of humor both the critics and audience have. 5/5 for rotten tomatoes, and I pray for Bruce Willis’ health. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review BJ M This was supposed to be a comedy but it was so bad I only laughed once. When it was over. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Karen F Really wanted to like this but there weren’t enough laughs Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/24 Full Review Darin S If you want to spend an hour and a half laughing your azz off with all the crazy shenanigans this movie has, you'll greatly enjoy it. If you're an uptight movie critic, I'm sure you won't find it intellectually stimulating enough. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Jack O I haven't seen Blind Date in ages now cause it's been a while since I've seen it and remember how funny it was. Considering this is Bruce Willis's first film which is credited since he starred in Moonlighting which I love because I watch parts of it of where he sings. That's funny. I found this movie to be good and it has it's funny scenes and I found the trailer to be funny where Bruce Willis is in jail after being drunk along with Kim Basinger. I wish they keep the scene in the film like they keep in the trailer and that's it. I have nothing more to say anything about it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review Sean W I love this classic. Moments of pure hilarity Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
