Audience Member Made in USA is a movie that follows two friends who grew up in a mining town with a hard life looking to get out so they decide to steal a car and go to California. On the way the meet a beautiful woman who joins them in their crime filled trip. The three travel across country victimizing anyone who is unlucky enough to cross their path. While I suppose we are supposed to feel sorry for these young sociopath's and those who join them because of Thier hard lives and the fact that they are also victims of bad circumstances, I can't help but hope that someone along the line puts an end to thier trip and put them away. I find the characters unsimpathetic and tend to feel more sympathy for all the people along the way that they victimize. Of course most of these people are presented as being, in some way, people we are not supposed to find sympathetic either so what you are left with is a movie filled with people you do not like or care about with an over arching environmentalist, anti establishment message clumsily pushed upon the viewer. There are interesting scenic views of small towns, native American / Southwest scenes and industrial sights but in general the viewer might find it hard to care or even sit through it until the absurd, terrible end which seems so out of place with the rest of the film. As if they clipped in the ending of a party movie with hot babes and all works out in the end with no consequences. It makes one wonder, and a bit angry with yourself, why you kept watching. Decent sound track though. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I've been watching a lot of early movies that feature brothers Sean and Chris Penn. Both are very good actors and I found this small obscure indie movie that stars Chris Penn and Adrian Pasdar. It's about two young adult guys who are unsatisfied with their small coal-mining hometown where all the jobs have dried up. They decide to take off for the more promising land of California. Along the way they steal just to get by and pick up a girl who is an even worse influence on the already degenerate thieves. For most of the movie it isn't bad, but it does some things that are really frustrating. It almost seems like they left out an entire scene or something. At one point they steal this giant big rig truck from this fat trucker couple and the trucker couple gather up a mob to go after them. The only thing though is that you never see the truckers again. The very ending is okay, but it kind of ends on a somewhat dumb dark comedic note that didn't really fit the rest of the movie. The movie also has this very anti-industrial bent that never really goes anywhere either. It's like the filmmakers wanted to make an environmental political statement, but completely half-assed it. Overall it is interesting, but ultimately it just completely disappointed me. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member ★★ 1/2 (out of four) Dar, played by Adrian Pasdar, and Tuck, played by Chris Penn, live in a small Pennsylvania town. They have struggled to make a living as coal miners. After a life threatening accident they are able to survive, but have had enough. They hit the highways for a long road trip to California. Along the way they pick up a sexy hitchhiker named Annie (Lori Singer). Their carefree trip takes a detour when the trio turn to a life of crime. The characterizations are pretty good and the actors work well together. The story, though is overly familiar and never adds much depth. Okay effort. Fairly dull film about two pals who leave their dead end Pennsylvania coal town and head west on a petty crime wave while passing through EPA clean up sites. Script could have used some cleaning up as well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Often pointless slice of Americana with two friends travelling west on a crime spree of shoplifting and stealing cars. Tracks the decay of parts of America, usually tied to some type of environmental issue. A wasted effort. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Whatever happended to Lori Singer?
