Hal Hinson Washington Post How much do you want a million dollars? If your answer is, "Bad enough to sit through just about anything," then go ahead, I dare ya, try to last through the whole thing. Nov 5, 2019 Full Review Nina Darnton New York Times I hate to make the film itself an afterthought, but that's what it is. All things considered, it could be a lot worse. May 21, 2003 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times As nearly as I could ascertain, it is not absolutely necessary to see this movie in order to find the million dollars. All the clues are in the Glad boxes. That is a good thing, because the search may easily last longer than the movie's run. Rated: 1/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Richard Freedman Newhouse News Service With Million Dollar Mystery, Hollywood achieves an apotheosis of sorts. It isn't so much a movie as a promo for a promo. Rated: 0/4 Nov 5, 2019 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 2/5 Sep 4, 2005 Full Review TV Guide Staff TV Guide By the fade-out, the viewer have been given clues as to where a million dollars is stashed, the pretext the movie's producers used to pull in an audience. It didn't work. Rated: 1/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Can't even rise to the level of a good cartoon. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member The 80's installment of the seemingly once-a-decade appearance of the great "Cast of Thousands" comedy bash where the characters are sent on a cross-country jaunt in search of buried treasure, gangsters' loot, etc..., and will go through Hell to get it! This, as with the other 5 representatives of this type of comedy fare present on my list, is extremely funny, with madcap situations befalling all involved. The only real difference is the cast is comprised mainly of minor stand-up comedians of the time, with no real big-name talent other than Tom Bosley (Mr Cunningham from "Happy Days")! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Love this movie used to watch it all the time as a kid, way better then Rat Race! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This one completely blindsided me. It started off being almost painful to watch, but as it went on, it...somehow managed to grow on me. It's still a completely terrible movie, but it develops a cheesy sort of charm as it goes on, peppered by some genuinely funny moments, and some truly impressive stunt driving. If you can get past the slow start, and some of the groaner bits later on, what you'll find is a sort of poor man's "Cannonball Run." That is, it's a goofy, ridiculous, slapstick race-to-the-money sort of film...apparently in more ways than one. It seems that when this was first released, the producers actually DID hide a million dollars somewhere, inserting clues in the film as to its location: a lofty goal that ultimately failed to pay off. The film barely grossed the amount of the hidden prize money during its run in theaters. And that's kinda sad, because while this isn't a -good- film by any means, it still manages to be enjoyable when all's said and done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member 'Million Dollar Mystery' is a wacky 1987 comedy from the writers of 'Revenge Of The Nerds' and 'High Anxiety'. The story follows a bunch of wild and crazy people who will do almost anything to find $4 million dollars in embezzled loot, hidden in four different bridges throughout Arizona! Everyone inside the Apache Acres diner is told about this money when Sidney Preston, a former White House aide suddenly drops dead after ordering a bowl of the best in the Southwest chili! Speeding off in search of the cash, they soon find themselves being pursued by a pair of bumbling Federal agents! 'Million Dollar Mystery' is hilarious and very well directed by Richard 'Amityville 3-D' Fleischer. It is filled with an amazing cast such as Tom Bosley, Eddie Deezen, Pam Matteson, Daniel McDonald, Kevin Pollak and Douglas Emerson, who would later appear as Scott Scanlon, one of the original cast members of the popular television series, 'Beverly Hills, 90210'. The soundtrack features very catchy songs, especially 'Million $ Mystery' and 'Going For The Gold'! When released, it was the first time in motion picture history in which one lucky person who solved the 'Million Dollar Mystery' would win $1 million dollars cash! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Very silly rip-off movie, the cast is not up to par, but it's light and still entertaining. Most of the gags are dumb, but every once in awhile there is a great gag or routine. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
