Mike P Oct 14 Interesting companion piece to Carrie...A Roger Corman-ish, low budget potboiler from 1978... It's part of the late 70s teen telekinesis/Carrie mini cycle in Hollywood, infact ...The boy's version, set in an Australian hospital...This time it's a comatose paralytic...A psychopathic boy who killed his parents, and was permanently crippled in the ensuing accident...But just like with Johnny Smith in the Dead Zone, being comatose now allows Patrick to access supernatural parts of his mind...And so he psionically threatens anyone who nears his love interest...Kathy, the charge nurse treating him...And he communicates through teletype...And can psychically travel out of his body and possess people...Obviously a bit silly, but also suitably creepy and thrilling. I mean it's no Carrie, but it's close...It is effective...Director Franklin knows how to milk a scene for all its suspense; and effectively wring the eeriness and power out of an image. (Patrick goes all bug eyed when he's Telekinetic; just like his onscreen psychic-sister Carrie, for example)...Surprisingly good actually: laying the groundwork for Franklin's very successful career, (he later directed Road Games and Psycho 2), being that it was a big sleeper hit when it was released... It's a fun horror film that has plenty of suspenseful and mysterious moments.  Visually, this film is creative, and the pacing builds to a wonderful and unexpected finale, which I enjoyed greatly.
