Kimberly B Loved this version of Scrooge! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/22 Full Review Ben F Sir Seymour Hicks is brilliant as Ebenezer Scrooge in this film. The production value is low but it almost feels like it was actually filmed in the era. Hicks is gruff but less over the top than Alistair Sim in the role. His change in the end feels more authentic to me. This is a must watch for me on Christmas Eve not the Sim version. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Steve D There are far better versions. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Kim D One of the very best. Probably only second to the Alister Sim version Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review Joel H Scrooge (1935) builds on the films that came before it. Not only is it the first feature-length adaptation of Charles Dickens's novella with sound, but it also shows more people in different classes and widens the scope of the story. It's also interesting to see Seymour Hicks play the same role that he played over 20 years earlier in Old Scrooge (1913). He still makes a fantastic Ebenezer and is able to be both a fear-inducing curmudgeon and a joyful lover of Christmas. I don't know why they chose not to show some of the spirits, but I do think this is a version of the story everyone should see. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/23 Full Review deke p Awesome, but ONLY cuz SO OLD that it qualifies as a classic. But the sound & the editing were extremely bad. The version I saw was ONLY 1 Hour, maybe that's all they could salvage. Saw on the television set, Christmas Eve 2021, the MOVIE Channel called it 'A very Shirley Christmas' Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
