Buried beneath the blood-soaked Santa suit, "Silent Night, Deadly Night" has something a lot of slasher films lack - a unique identity, and thus cult film status. Go to Full Review

if his eventual explosion delivers all the by-numbers cat & mouse and multitool culling that is expected of thesubgenre, it is his personal psychodrama which keeps us engaged with what is as much a human tragedy as a succession of sensational thrills Go to Full Review

We're not knocking the transformation of a hallowed holiday figure into a homicidal maniac...it's the pleasure Billy and the movie take in leering at, then dicing up young women that lands Charles E. Sellier Jr.'s sicko Santa on our worst list. Go to Full Review

It really is the movie’s fearlessly exploitive emotional and physical violence that cements its all-time placement in the Evil Santa canon. Go to Full Review

Silent Night, Deadly Night is the best version of this movie that I can imagine. The script is way tighter than it needs to be in terms of setting up and executing the major moving pieces of the plot. Go to Full Review

The film is infamous for its blend of holiday cheer and brutal violence, exploring themes of trauma, abuse, and the darkness that can lie beneath festive surfaces, all while maintaining a sense of humor and not taking itself too seriously. Go to Full Review

Jonathan N @Passtheacidtest Dec 29 Spoiler alert: Watch before reading this review... OK, best slasher ever? No. Original, yes. And for all you reviewers who wanted more, you miss the point of this minimalist, B-movie slasher genre. This movie was an 80's violent killer with actual backstory, and it delivers on everything it set out to do. What else did you want? I don't know, but this is the decade of pure unadulterated slasher violence, and this one is not a sleeper. Also, there are some awesome kills. The sledding scene comes to mind... Watch it on Christmas eve... What's the matter? Afraid? See more Jacob B Dec 24 Divorced from the controversy that surrounded it back in the day, Silent Night, Deadly Night is just another slasher film back in their heyday that stood out for a few reasons: the focus almost firmly on the slasher villain's POV and the Christmas setting (so basically Black Christmas but we actually see the killer and it was made after the formula was established; premarital sex continues to be taken VERY seriously). Once the novelty wears off, it's kind-of generic with the level of acting you'd expect and not enough memorable kills to make the film worthwhile. I'd be tempted to call the film you have to watch to get to the one you want to watch were it not for the fact that the one with "GARBAGE DAY!" mostly consists of archive footage. So, the whole thing would be an exercise in redundancy. That clip is funny enough on its own anyway. Why bother sitting through a whole film that barely has any original filmed material just for the meme? It barely has a Christmas connection anyway. See more Andrew A @rt_andrew Dec 22 depressing slop with no one to relate to See more Alan P Dec 20 I see why this has cult status. It's very '80s and not at all bad for that. The story is different in that we follow the killer through his childhood and then into his night of killing. In terms of backstory, the writer clearly tried to create a reason for his psychotic break (but hey, it's an 80's slasher, don't expect too much) - I very much enjoyed it as a throwback movie. Pretty tame compared to today's standards and things like the Terrifier. See more Ian H @Howellsey Dec 19 Surprisingly graphic, Cormanesque schlock. Enjoyable if dated See more Rick B @Rick0109 Dec 14 Slasher movie with a story. Loved it. At first I thought it was slash and kill but as the story unfolded there were glimpses of something going on...it was an entertaining movie. See more Read all reviews
