Peter W 07/22/2023 Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this thriller, and I found myself invested in the film's plot very quickly. It is a simple plot with unpredictable outcomes. Performances from both Glenn Ford and Janis Carter were also wonderful, and together they brought the kind of chemistry and mystery which I wished we had more of in the present day. See more Joshua V 04/02/2021 Glen Ford is the king of Noir Film. See more Ken R 01/29/2021 Well cast, with a reasonable original story, this Columbia B picture needed a better budget and screenplay. Several plot developments are signalled way before they occur with some scenes being slackly directed. Nice performances help save some shortcomings with Janice Carter being a convincing femme fatale, and beautiful (it's a pity Columbia and RKO didn't utilise her more selectively) Glen Ford is fine as the down on his luck stranger in town (who foolishly drinks too much) with nice support from Edger Buchannan and Barry Sullivan. As a little noir pic - it manages to hold attention for most of the duration. Award-winning Cinematographer Burnett Guffey (From Here To Eternity '53) is probably the films best asset. The Re-mastered Bluray disc is clear and clean but a little darkish, so, if you can get a decent DVD copy might be better. See more deke p 10/25/2019 JANIS CARTER! WOW! She HOT as any babe ever!! I never heard of or saw her before i saw this on tv, 10-24-2019, Interesting film noir with a few twists. See more 03/28/2019 I liked this more than others, apparently. Ford gives a pretty good performance as the suspicious patsy with some pent-up hostility. See more 03/21/2018 Great classic movie! Deserves all the attention it can get! Stylish and classy! Perfect example of film noirs play with light and shadows! The same kind of humour as William Powells movies! Ansolutely a movie that deserves to be seen and remembered! See more Read all reviews
