It is designed to entertain a mainstream audience on a Saturday night, with a decent story told well and with efficiency. Peter W Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this thriller, and I found myself invested in the film's plot very quickly. It is a simple plot with unpredictable outcomes. Performances from both Glenn Ford and Janis Carter were also wonderful, and together they brought the kind of chemistry and mystery which I wished we had more of in the present day. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Joshua V Glen Ford is the king of Noir Film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/02/21 Full Review Ken R Well cast, with a reasonable original story, this Columbia B picture needed a better budget and screenplay. Several plot developments are signalled way before they occur with some scenes being slackly directed. Nice performances help save some shortcomings with Janice Carter being a convincing femme fatale, and beautiful (it's a pity Columbia and RKO didn't utilise her more selectively) Glen Ford is fine as the down on his luck stranger in town (who foolishly drinks too much) with nice support from Edger Buchannan and Barry Sullivan. As a little noir pic - it manages to hold attention for most of the duration. Award-winning Cinematographer Burnett Guffey (From Here To Eternity '53) is probably the films best asset. The Re-mastered Bluray disc is clear and clean but a little darkish, so, if you can get a decent DVD copy might be better. WOW! She HOT as any babe ever!! I never heard of or saw her before i saw this on tv, 10-24-2019, Interesting film noir with a few twists. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked this more than others, apparently. Ford gives a pretty good performance as the suspicious patsy with some pent-up hostility.
