Critics Consensus

Part contrived romance, part hackneyed sports drama, The Cutting Edge shows how difficult it can be to figure skate through cheese.

Aileen D Fun movie. A light, enjoyable rom-com with two talented, seemingly mismatched individuals who bicker and fight as they train for the Olympics. There’s a scene I love where the former ice hockey player challenges the fiery female ice skating star to a game of shooting the putt past a target. She fails miserably, while he outplays her. There’s a lot of snappy dialogue verbal “foreplay” - as they continually challenge each other on the ice and off, before recognize they’re in love. Good choice of music, too, that complements the story and raises your spirits. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/11/25 Full Review Raymond D. An underrated movie. Great directing by Paul Michael Glaser of TV's Starsky and Hutch alibiet the skating sequences are unbelievable. The two leads have a magical chemistry together. Fun dialogue and even funnier situations. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/06/25 Full Review Jon P Clean, rom-com that does just enough. No scene feels overdone or unnecessary, and the chemistry between the stars adds to the appeal. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Frans B Paul Michael Glaser did good here. DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly truly shines here in character. True classic in so many senses. Great cinematography and expertly written. Nice to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Kay M Great movie. Great acting. DB Sweeney at his finest. This movie stands the test of time.
