Frans B Paul Michael Glaser did good here. DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly truly shines here in character. True classic in so many senses. Great cinematography and expertly written. Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Moira Kelly, the late Roy Dotrice, Terry O' Quinn, and DB Sweeney and directed by Paul Michael Glaser Kate Moseley is the figure skating champion while Doug Dorsey is the ice hockey all-star King of the rink and America's ice queen couldn't be more opposite from one another Both of them hit blocks in their respective careers She's denied her gold medal so her coach Anton needs to find her a suitable partner and her father is pushing too hard He's lost his peripheral vision making his inability to play again 2 years pass by and they bump into each other again struggling to make a comeback Anton has the crazy idea of teaming both Kate and Doug in an ice skating competition They butt heads nonstop but over time learn to respect each other's craft Kate also comes to terms with how she threw all of her potential away and wonders why she kept sticking to the sport; because she wanted or because her father wanted to Yes a lot of this is cheesy making it a challenge to blend two genres together Yet the appeal of the leads is the sticking point plus the skating sequences are filmed terrifically I was expecting a straight up underdog story yet many iconic moments still stand out Two things even benefited from this; No one fully executed the Pamchenko, the couple's impossible signature move on the ice but it looked incredible to see the filmmakers pull off something so complicated The toe pick catch phrase became ubiquitous after the film was released too A very likable sports comedy/ romance | will admit Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Guillermo P Buckle up for a 90s classic packed with charm, laughs, and enough heart to melt even the iciest rink! The Cutting Edge does admittedly throw realism out the window (training an adult hockey player into a world-class figure skater? Defying the laws of physics with impossible throws? We won't dwell on that!). Sure, the training montages are pure fantasy, but they're also infectiously inspiring. You'll root for this mismatched pair as they push their limits, discover hidden depths, and learn that love conquers all, even physics-defying throws. I simply love this movie! I really recommend it.
