rossi w good art for everyone ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Cameron L Not a very good movie but Jodi Benson was amazing at singing, and the the animation was passable. But the rest of the movie was mediocre Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Monsol E There are some movies that are just as good as an adult as they were when you were a kid....this ain't one of em, but I'm still fond of it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Monica P When I was younger, I thought it was a magical movie about true love. As a young adult, I thought it was hilarious and terrible, about a 15-16 year old girl with veeeeery little agency who falls in love with a dude she's known for 5 minutes and then eventually married him. As an adult, I realize it's about a child taken advantage of by so many people who claim to know what's best for her. She's lied to, and because she has no world experience, she has no ability to tell that they're lying to her. For all we know she's actually like a month old because she pops out of a flower looking like a teen, lmao. The point is, Thumbelina has no agency because she hasn't LEARNED agency. By the end of the movie, she has learned that people can lie to her, tell her things and convince her with pretty words- and that the only time someone tells her to sing is when Jacquimo is trying to help her. Everyone else demanded she sing for them- Jacquimo demanded she sing for her. It's about the fine line of people trying to take advantage of you by saying pretty things, by SOUNDING like they have your best interests at heart, and the difficulty in knowing for sure whether they do or not. Even Jacquimo sounded like he was just demanding the same thing of her as everyone else- but the difference is there. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Cyrus K The truth is, i wanna love this movie. So what works is about the movie, well the animation as usual is beautiful like all of Don bluths movies, and the song "let me be your wings" is pretty good with lovely vocals. but the characters in the movie are either annoying or overly cutesy, the songs are pretty bad, and i think i just found the main problem with this movie. This is a bit overly cutesy, but thankfully not "A troll in central park" overly cutesy! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/17/22 Full Review bergendi marie w A childhood favorite. I watched it tonight and fell in love all over again. The great cast of voice actors brings a lively and nostalgic feeling. From Jodi Bensons adorably charming voice acting to the catchy fun and beautiful musical numbers, there's nothing not to like about this film. The story line has a great message about true love and also what its like as a girl or femme person dealing with social pressures surrounding marriage. It reminds young girls to believe in their choices and stay true to your heart. There's a dark side to this film that I think is subtle enough to still enchant young viewers while engaging an older audience! Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times I didn't much care, for two reasons: Thumbelina's woe-is-me act got old real fast, and I couldn't care less about her matrimonial prospects. And in spite of 10 yawner songs from Manilow, he manages to keep the story moving.
