When young army cadet Ciccio (Alessandro Momo) is assigned to spend seven days in the service of a wounded army captain, he little suspects what's in store. Blinded by an explosion, Fausto Consolo (Vittorio Gassman) is nevertheless a pompous, prideful and lecherous aristocrat who needs Ciccio to keep him out of trouble. As they travel across Italy by train, Fausto variously ruffles feathers and chases women until they reach Naples, where he plans to honor a suicide pact.

Ruth Batchelor Los Angeles Free Press Scent has the sweet smell of success, and Gassman comes out smelling like a rose. And, aside from those unforgivable cliches, it's a worthwhile movie. Audience Member Profumo di Donna might seem like a cheesy Italian romance and it does have its overly melodramatic moments, but due to the subtle acting of Gassman and the great chemistry between Gassman and Momo the movie has a well-balanced narration. It cannot simply be reduced to sex jokes and lewdness, although Fausto's jokes sometimes are rather crude. The writing is spot on and the message of a broken old army captain is fantastically presented against the backdrop of some of Italy's most beautiful cities. Overall 7/10 Full Review: https://movie-discourse.blogspot.de/2018/01/profumo-di-donna-ita-1974.html Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Once you've seen this, the american remake will unveil itself as what it is. An insipid edulcorated mainstream Hollywood version of a really beautiful and intense movie. Where is Vittorio Gassman's Academy Award? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
