acsdoug D A couple of fine performances from Peter Lorre and Dan Duryea fail to take this beyond standard film noir fare. That's okay, I like standard film noir fare. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review nick s Well directed film noir, with good pacing and energy. A lot of nice camera work and framing. The story built organically and had a strong finish. The excellent acting was helped along by a captivating script. Actually, hard to fault. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review j F Duryea was excellent, sleazy yet compassionate. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/04/23 Full Review paul d Roy William Neill's Black Angel is a very good crime thriller and human drama. It's got a great 40s ambiance, a pleasing and very economic style typical of that era, and good performances from Dan Duryea, June Vincent, Peter Lorre and Broderick Crawford. The film is resolved by a surprising and somewhat annoying deus ex machina, but still comes out as a very satisfying story. To film buffs: I've heard that Duryea and Vincent are doing their own piano playing and singing in this film. Is that right ? It was very nice on both counts. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review andy f An entertaining if slightly lightweight film noir. Peter Lorre and Dan Duryea are terrific and worth the time for their performances.
