Noel Murray AV Club Scott's Hamlet has been staged with clarity and competency... But the video-library shelves are already overflowing with more vital adaptations, so there's no real reason to blow the dust off this one. Nov 14, 2019 Full Review Ken Eisner Variety Campbell Scott's self-helmed Great Dane is more than ever a man for our time... the veteran thesp - who returns to the role after several legit runs - injects considerable humor and lots of edgy anger into his screen version. Audience Member (Presentation) (First Viewing, 1st Scott film) Hallmark and Shakespeare... an odd pairing, to say the least. Campbell Scott (who both starred and directed) makes a fine Hamlet, but everything else is very TV movie quality, including the style, the editing, and the acting of the supporting characters. And at three hours long... well, I was intensely wishing I was watching the 2000 theatrical version of Shakespeare's classic play, starring Ethan Hawke (which I have not seen).
