Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Anyone who doesn’t predict the final gotcha clearly hasn’t seen enough horror films -- perhaps a blessing when it comes to junk like this. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 14, 2024 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The Convent may have a few issues and some problematic humor here and there but it’s still a lot of fun. Snider eFilmCritic.com Everything is played way over-the-top, using the traditional trappings of a teen horror flick, but using them so much they become satirical. craig s The convent, is one of them films I always go back to every few years, and a film I can enjoy every watch. The films being in the verge of slapstick with a horror touch, with your typical cliche moments. Idiotic teens, go into a haunted abounded place, mess around etc….. What I truly love love about the film is its themes, the use of uv paint and lighting, some of the kills are also fun and unique. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Twiggy H First 3mins of that film was fantastic in so many ways.. unfortunately, and frustratingly, the rest of the film was not done to the same effect nor style. Could have been something truly amazing. The acting was great for most of it by most the cast, but there were some really dull and tacky bits thrown in (i guess to try and add comedy) but it wasn't needed and just made too much of a slap-stick joke making it patchy in places (like the use of cheesy added in high pitched sound effects - the type you only hear in children's cartoons). If it kept up with the style of the first 3mins; fine tuned some of characters (or even removed the annoying ones) it would have been awesome. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/12/24 Full Review Moon B Over the top self aware B movie fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review Audience Member LOL "we knew something was off right away" - oh, was it the neon green eyes, neon blue veins, & glowing teeth perhaps? haha. if you're looking for a good movie, this ain't it. it's EXTREMELY campy, so i guess if you're into that maybe you'll enjoy it. it was just too over the top for me; i wasn't in the mood. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member The Convent's inclusion of a single character seen only at the beginning and end of the film is basically all that separates it from being a shot-for-shot remake of Night of the Demons. Which I gues doesn't sound so bad in theory, I mean, I like that movie, so ripping it off isn't the worst idea. But if you're gonna steal the entire concept, maybe don't steal some of the other stuff. Like I think it would've even been easier to swallow if it was just something as straight forward as making the "demons" look different from how they do in Night of the Demons, you know, just for that little bit of originality. But I guess that's too much to ask. I honestly did still kind of enjoy this though. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Without a doubt one of the campiest horror movies I have ever seen. The cheese factor is off the scale.
