Critics Consensus

Though Lillard is uncannily spot-on as Shaggy, Scooby Doo is a tired live-action update, filled with lame jokes.

Namrata Joshi Outlook Even its look is awfully cheesy and clunky, the SFX notwithstanding. Scooby Doo makes Stuart Little seem a Citizen Kane in comparison. Rated: 1/4 Jan 3, 2019 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Too scary for most kids, too dumb for most teens. Rated: 3/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 10, 2003 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome The pitch-perfect casting of the members of Mystery Inc. is what makes Scooby-Doo compulsively rewatchable. The plot is serviceable, and most adults will be able to unmask the villain long before the Mystery Inc. team does, but that doesn’t matter. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ If you can accept a pixellated pooch, you'll be rewarded with an entertaining, un-taxing romp that will delight fans and enthrall youngsters. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 27, 2022 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast It's a compromised vision, to be sure, but this colorful and campy pseudo-parody of the classic Scooby-Doo cartoons still has plenty of fun in store for younger (and some older) audiences. Mark J If you just want an absolute nonsense film to kill your brain for a bit this is it. It doesn’t need to be anything more and it has the best Shaggy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/25 Full Review Ro M Really sweet funny film love Sarah Michele gellar Matthew was amazing as shaggy too Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Audience Member Not really that good. The CGI was just bad, it was just wacky. Scooby looked extremely cartoonish. I just can't like this live action. They just should of made it a cartoon Scooby-Doo movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/06/25 Full Review Qachina M Scooby-Doo is the best live action film I've ever seen. No film can compare. Eat your heart out Scorsese, Lynch and Kubrick. You could only dream of making a film as good as this. The casting is perfect, they embody the cartoonish personalities and yet somehow become so fully realised, you'd not blink an eye if you met them in the street. The CGI, despite being of it's time Holds Up in a way than many modern films that use this technology DO NOT (despite it having been refined since the release of this film) The story is fabulous, enthralling, truly SCOOBY DOO. I'll never forgive the critics for panning this film at release. I can only apologise to the creators, cast and crew of this film that I was a mere 6 years old when this film was released, and therefore unable to articulate my unadulterated adoration and joy that this film has brought to me time and time again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review C M Is this a GOOD movie? Well, not exactly, but it is a FUN movie. It also really does do justice to the source material, and this is about as close as you can get to perfection if you're going for a live action version of the cartoon. Worth a watch, with or without MaryJane. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Andy C Critics need to grow up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Read all reviews
