Niecy (Kerry Washington) works at an expensive Boston department store, using her knowledge of fashion and security to steal clothing from other stores. In her inner-city neighborhood, she resells her wares to friends and family while struggling to connect with her mother, Elaine (Lonette McKee), and worrying about her relationship with her drug dealer boyfriend, Angelo (Eugene Byrd). To steal a necklace for her mother, Niecy agrees to help gangster Christian (Todd Williams) with a large heist.

[The script] has a muddled and clichéd it's-all-Mom's-fault subplot about Niecy's relationship with her mother, but the scenes of Niecy trying to navigate between her criminal, personal, and family lives present questions that don't have easy answers.

This is an intriguing film about a young woman who's a successful booster of high end clothes & jewelry. She is popular with her dedicated clientele—she even takes orders. But unexpected events work to change her mindset about criminality, & we witness her distress over her longest relationship, that with her mother (the revered Lonette McGee!). You won't lose interest watching this film.
