Audience Member Begins as an intriguing S&M psychoanalysis but quickly devolves into torture porn while the main antagonist spouts ridiculous amounts of babble about the nature of punishment. Clever concept poorly executed. Highly unmemorable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member From the cracking synth credit music, you knew this was going to be a gripping film. Ray Brady was the man responsible for filming the torture sequences in the movie 'Videorome'. I was lucky enough to see a special screening of this at the NFT and Brady himself came out and introduced his movie, saying "If you enjoy this film you are sick!" Some members of the audience actually walked out but the idea and acting is pretty good. Sort of suffers by having a shoe-string budget but takes nothing away from the power of the piece. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Starting to work myself through the "Unearthed Films" I purchased recently, I decided to start with this interesting little take on a cross between "Man Bites Dog" and "Hard Candy". Basically a man picks up a woman at a bar, and they go back to her place. Big mistake. After passing out from a drugged drink, he wakes up finding himself strapped in a dentist chair, with this gorgeous woman ready to do as she pleases to him. The movie concentrates a lot on dialog and judgment regarding philosophical questions about society. Oh, and I might mention torture on her new guinea pig. The story takes a few twists and turns, but in the end, I found it very interesting despite the very low budget, the acting is top notch and the whole idea of the story pretty intriguing. It's nothing special, but a strange little film that "Unearthed" made available to people like me that like this sort of stuff. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this many year's ago when it was banned and tracked the director down for my dissertation on censorship. Recently picked it up on DVD and it still holds it's power now. It is obviously incredibly low-budget, with patchy acting in places and sketchy direction, but the plot works incredibly well and is intelligent and engaging. The furore at the time of it's original ban seems to have missed many of the points the film was trying to make in places. Often comes across as a theatre piece rather than a film, with slightly more money and time this could be executed very well and be a more intriguing film. A precursor of sorts for Hard Candy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This bizarre film is sure to polarize, but one wonders if the whole purpose for the movie had nothing to do with an audience other than the impact of challenging a film board in England, who banned it for seven years. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed the creative use of a dentist's chair and a microwave. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
