Audience Member WAR STORIES WOW. Intriguing, fast-paced drama about a lively crew of war correspondents assigned to Uzbekistan following the outbreak of civil war there. Produced as a pilot project for a new network series which ended up being canceled. Too bad because this one had all the makings of a winner. Jeff Goldblum seemed credible in the role of an American newspaper reporter trying to stay objective about his work. However, I was not so sure about the ethics behind any decision to send overseas a photographer (played by Lake Bell) who had such blatantly strong personal feelings and seemed so immature--that was highly suspicious to me because it clearly endangered the very lives of everyone around her. Otherwise, a host of interesting characters. Includes some disturbing scenes of combat. Raises a lot of good questions regarding the difficulties and dangers of this type of journalism. John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture It may not be the best foreign-correspondent/danger-junkie movie ever made, but it does actually manage to raise some nagging questions about our War on Terror that all our network news divisions have been shying away from faster than a speeding Patriot.
