When hard times hit Swallow Falls, its townspeople can only afford to eat sardines. Flint Lockwood, a failed inventor, thinks he has the answer to the town's crisis. He builds a machine that converts water into food, and becomes a local hero when tasty treats fall from the sky like rain. But when the machine spins out of control and threatens to bury the whole world under giant mounds of food, Flint finds he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Evan Williams The Australian There are many funny moments and some pleasing suspense towards the end, but as a cautionary tale about the dangers of overeating and obesity it's more likely to boost sales at the candy bar. That may be one good reason for watching it at home. Rated: 3/5 Jun 27, 2014 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) Writer-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have expanded a 30-page children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett into a 3D animated feature which boasts intricate design and goofy humour. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 26, 2009 Full Review Philippa Hawker The Age (Australia) Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs is visually inventive and exuberant, and has some neat running gags. But its characterisations are a little disappointing. Rated: 3/5 Nov 26, 2009 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a fun, larger-than-life premise that is, at the outset, employed to compulsively watchable effect... Rated: 2/4 Jun 18, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand Director/writer team Phil Lord and Chris Miller cobble a story around the storybook’s premise but it’s the whimsical imagery of raining hamburgers, a Jell-O mold castle, an ice-cream winter wonderland, and a spaghetti tornado that carries the film. I Am F Creative enough but I have no emotions watching this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review James R This film is a creative idea and set towards all audiences. While the science behind most of it doesn't hold up, it is still a funny and creative movie that is sure to entertain. It also has a lesson in it, showing that too much of a good thing is bad with the FLDSMDFR eventually causing catastrophy across the planet. It amazes me that Sony was able to combine The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day and then made it for kids. Overall, although not a perfect film, it is still pretty good and I would recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review MrEpic 1 Such a masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Obi-wan K Love the story soo much Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/15/24 Full Review Audience Member My thinking of cloudy with the chance of meatballs is a great all the happy stuff and the ending was actually awesome and that flint Lockwood at the beginning of the movie was good but Brent was a mean bully of his spray on shoes but he was right but so mean that he said he want to be smart but he lame Brent said but flint Lockwood was smart that turns water into food and it the best movie and everything the best all of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Darío C Very goofy and chaotic. It is funny, and has an original story, giving a fun explanation to the original book.
