Critics Consensus

Increasingly tedious displays of gore makes this torture porn home-invasion-horror more programmatic than provocative.

Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Relentlessly bloody and just as relentlessly idiotic deathtrap thriller for the Saw crowd. Rated: 1/5 Jun 30, 2010 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian This is a crass, silly and baffling slice of torture porn -- with the audience being tortured, chiefly with boredom. Rated: 1/5 Jun 25, 2010 Full Review Kat Halstead Little White Lies It's a truly creepy concept which, inevitably, leaves room for a sequel. Rated: 3/5 Jun 25, 2010 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh After years of being punished with Saw sequels, The Collector manages to offer up a more compelling version of a similar formula, while adding a home-invasion spin to the terror. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review You can’t laugh at it. It won’t scare you. So the only reason to watch is for a gore fix. Rated: 0.5/4 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight For horror fans hoping to find a new slasher to engage with, The Collector is not likely the answer. Jason W First off, hated the animal murder parts, just for those who are like me and dislike animal harm, 2 scenes, not long but it's in there. Kind of like Home Alone meets Saw. If Kevin McAllister grew up to be a more psycho version of John Kramer. The whole movie is inspired by Saw from the green hue lighting and grainy film, to the music and traps. The main character is actually pretty good and likable. Very gory, the kills are decent. Mask is cool. Horrible cgi bugs and it was quite obvious at the start who the killer was going to be. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Audience Member This movie is one of the most thrilling experiences ever. The gore, traps and characters are very good. I really liked it. Ending was a bit weak but rest is beatiful! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Alexis J Home Alone for adults that like gore and industrial music and grainy camera Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/12/24 Full Review Charles C With fairly enjoyable lead character, a horror icon that has potential, gruesome gore effects and eerie lighting, make horror version of home alone a underrated horror gem. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Priyan B Felt a bit stretched at the end and I don't like the ending but overall movie is decent.
