Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) The Disappeared makes you jump once or twice, but it's a dubiously overcooked horror-thriller. Rated: 1/5 Jun 19, 2009 Full Review David Jenkins Time Out Johnny Kervorkian sets up the film nicely, but by the end, your worst fears are realised when it climaxes in the most anodyne way possible. Rated: 2/5 Jun 19, 2009 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) The film is let down by inauthentic dialogue and plotting that unravels rather embarrassingly in the final reel. But the tension is well sustained and Treadaway's performance is full of pallid intensity. Rated: 3/5 Jun 19, 2009 Full Review Cynthia Fuchs PopMatters A complicated family dynamic is the point of departure for The Disappeared, part horror movie, part psychological study. Rated: 6/10 Jul 17, 2009 Full Review Bill Gibron PopMatters While it may miss an opportunity here or there, The Disappeared is an eerie, entertaining effort. Rated: 3/5 Jul 17, 2009 Full Review Daniel Etherington Film4 Despite a few cliches and a slightly predictable climax, this is an atmospheric, well-made feature debut for the new filmmaking partnership of Kevorkian and Murphy. Audience Member Please hire someone older than the Highschool kid you've been using as your videographer/editor! It's EXTREMELY HARD ON THE EYES as well as incredibly obnoxious totelaring the deliberate blurry shots, the 1/4 face shots, the 1/2 second flipped shots of different pic( blurry or text). Crimewatch Daily is quite successful therefore have the new videographer/editor watch a few episides to get the gyst of what viewers want! Until then, I can't handle torturing my eyes watching 10 more seconds of this show 'Disappeared' and will limit my crime information to CRIME WATCH DAILY. Besides, the ending is ALWAYS pointless. CRIME STOPPERS usually puts info out in attempt to HELP RESOLVE UNSOLVED CRIMES. CRIMEWATCH DAILY puts out COMPLETE stories to educate and inform. DISAPPEARED SLOPPILY THROWS TOGETHER BITS & PIECES FOR WHAT? It's usually years too late unlike Crimes toppers and and too jumbled WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTION AT THE END OF EVERY SHOW, unlike Crimewatch Daily who ALWAYS ends with informative resolution/conviction. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS AMATURE JUMBLED 'SHOW' THAT'S ALWAYS OPEN-ENDED!?? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member "The Disappeared" is a slow burner, cleverly mixing a ghost stories with mystery element and psychological tension part and also terrific performance from Harry Treadaway, overall will leave you in surprise and with some question at the ends. This is some hidden gem in British horror cinema. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Photography is sterile, cold and depressive giving this film a sharp horror that is contagious. Poverty, Drink and hatred all feature in broad swathes as the mystery progresses, with some dream scenes that creep up the back and bite the neck sharply. Music and sound effects make you want to run into a dark room and scream. Nibbles: Egg and Chips. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The Disappeared isn't great, but it isn't bad either. The movie picks up about half way through, and has a few genuine scares toward the climax. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member oh my goodness... I almost never watch this type of movie. I didn't even realize I had requested it from the library or whatever possessed me to do so. I'm kind of glad that I did, but then again probably not good to watch it alone so late at night. =/ It was a really good movie for a horror flick. I don't think I would watch it again though. =) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Good eerie drama develops credible characters, and grim british social-housing kitchen-sink reality. But that's not good box-office, so it gets scripted into the background and a cheap easy ending is dumped on the viewer. Dad's role in particular, with credible suspicion building on him as he copes with the stress HIS way is remarkably acted. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
