Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader Laquan McDonald deserved a better life, and he deserved a better memorial than a dashcam video, or, for that matter, 16 Shots. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 14, 2019 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times As Rowley's film reminds us, there was no huge public outcry in the immediate aftermath of Laquan's death, no major media surge to investigate the official police line. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 14, 2019 Full Review Danette Chavez AV Club Thoughtful yet stylish, 16 Shots maintains a firm grasp of these narratives while introducing a few more over the course of its runtime. Rated: B+ Jun 12, 2019 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Sobering docu about racism and corruption in Chicago. Rated: 3/5 Aug 28, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member If America does not wake up and deal with the issue of racism, this will continue to happen. Young black males are still viewed as threatening and menacing and not viewed as humans. From Emmett Till in 1955, Rodney King, Tamir Rice, Eric Harris, Walter Scott, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile these men all had one (1) thing in common; there were all BLACK. This movie took the time and effort to truly investigate the inner workings of CPD, the thin blue line and city hall. If America does not see why the black community have no trust in the police, this is why. What is it to be truly free in this society, we as Black Americans still are asking that question. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member The best doc this year! So incredibly relevant. Must watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A stunning doc about the consequences of Laquan McDonald being murdered by a Chicago "cop". Do not watch this for any insight into the victim Mr. McDonald - there's hardly anything about him. The doc instead focuses on the many cover-ups by other officers, detectives, Chicago PD, the mayor's office, etc. It focuses on the subsequent community reaction to these events, sparked due to the fortunate release of the officer's body cam footage. It focuses on the trial of the murderer JASON VAN DYKE. The doc could've done a much better job of showing us who Mr. McDonald was, and same goes for the murderer JASON VAN DYKE. But the doc should still be commended for sharing this story which I had never heard of before watching the doc. ALL TRUE CRIME FANS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIORS NEED TO WATCH THIS DOC. The consequences shown at the end are both amazing and appalling. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
