Synopsis
When Sophie Rubin (Maria Schell) sees a TV interview with Alexander Scherbatov (Paul Scofield) -- one of Sigmund Freud's last living patients -- she decides she has to meet him, being a patient of Freud herself. Traveling from New York City to Vienna, Sophie meets Alexander at his apartment, where the two compare notes on their psychoanalysis. Along the way, they reopen the wounds of the past, and question whether their time with Freud was any help in healing them.
