Claire Lee Variety Though its potential is not fully realized, “20th Century Girl” does manage to add to the timeworn theme of first love by providing a moving examination of what makes certain moments — and certain people — unforgettable. Oct 22, 2022 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan (Medium) A coming-of-age that deals with love, loss, and being true to themselves. The best part is that the friendship between Bo-ra and Yeon-du is genuine. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review William Schwartz HanCinema What changes Bo-ra from Kim Yoo-jung to Han Hyo-joo? How did those teenage experiences turn her into the woman she is in the present day? "20th Century Girl" doesn't have a good answer for that. She loved, she lost, and now she sells beauty lotion. Mar 4, 2023 Full Review Jennifer Green Common Sense Media The South Korean location, filmed in shades of green and yellow, couches the characters in a safe and gentle setting, allowing them to focus solely on matters of the heart. Rated: 3/5 Oct 26, 2022 Full Review Liz Kocan Decider While there are a few issues with the broad acting choices in the film, the plot of the film moves along quickly enough that there’s never a lingering sense of dread (as you often get with stories of mistaken feelings and identities). Philippe B Absolutely Devastating. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/25 Full Review Roh S This movie will stay with you in positive and frustrating ways. The Pros are that the film has a Perfect, believable leading vast and characters which lure you into the film and makes you endure an imperfect screenplay. The film elicits sometimes, unexpected, disembodied emotions as it plays off the impact and. influence of memory past, present and future across tome, place, space and meaningful connections. For example, the viewer is brutally confronted with the brokering of time lost and time redeemed, in a scene caught bittersweetly during the over emotive train platform scene. However, is not this unexpected vulnerability the crux of teenage first loves? Then as a final ending, the film actual takes a calculated but creative risk by time traveling virtually creating passage for the male lead to fulfill his heartfelt promise, years after the two lead characters parted ways. A recommended view if you want to be a bit hopelessly and unexpectedly entranced, despite a resistance to being so.... as imperfect as the narrative is.
