Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald A lot of fumbling follows as the film threatens to die of boredom... It's all a little too half-hearted. Rated: 3/5 Feb 12, 2020 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) The many missed cues and misread intentions to follow are pleasingly handled by the two young leads, both of whom are destined for bigger things. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 20, 2020 Full Review Tom Beasley VultureHound It has charm to spare, if your nerves can last through the weapons-grade cringe of its toughest sequences. Rated: 4/5 Aug 17, 2020 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media British dating comedy has sex, language but lacks chemistry. Rated: 2/5 Aug 7, 2020 Full Review Aine O'Connor Sunday Independent (Ireland) The intention is good - awkward sexual encounters and normal bodies make a great change from the usual romcom fare - but this is a missed opportunity. Rated: 2/5 Apr 22, 2020 Full Review James Mottram The List Despite their talent, MacKay and Roach struggle with what is, for much of its duration, a two-hander. Michael M It's a quite ambitious premise for a film considering it's a scenario you tend to see more in a bottle episode of a sitcom, however thanks to the chemistry between the main characters and the delightfully awkward interactions they have, this is a great watch, The use of flashbacks really develops the feeling of yearning, and the romance at the heart of the film is charming. Not to mention very funny. A lovely film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review Audience Member LOL, the funniest British comedy ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member It's so cringe and accurate it's brilliant. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Uncomfortable humor in every scene smacks this British comedy from being likeable. There is no other type of scen other than awkward, clumsy, ridiculous moronic uncomfortable moments. If that sounds great this might be watchable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I think if you don't like The Guide to Second Date Sex you don't understand the awkwardness and horrors of what dating is like now, especially for introverts. The film written and directed by Rachel Hirons walks a line between absurdity and relatability and winds up being hilarious, endearing, and even sexy. George MacKay and Alexandra Roach are perfect in trying to present an image of what they aren't and also trying to recreate the drunken magic of their first meeting. The film features relatable insecurities and relatable bodies and relatable situations, along with unexpected twists which keep it ending up in the ditch with most sex comedies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I didn't go in with any expectations for this film but my god, I had an absolute blast both of the times I watched it. I found it to be incredibly hilarious for this exact reason: there are moments, unfortunately, where the story-line can be related too and shows the ~not so flash~ parts of hooking up with someone new. This is why I loved it as unlike a lot of other rom-coms, it shows everything to be perfect but 2nd Date Sex shows realness. It was the first movie in a while which has had me laughing out loud so it's a big yes from me, Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
