Alex Davidson Sight & Sound A Brixton Tale has a simplicity that sometimes verges on the simplistic; but the strong lead performances, some effective set pieces and its unassailable arguments against privilege make this a tale worth telling. Oct 1, 2021 Full Review Leslie Byron Pitt Little White Lies Swiftly paced, but grim in its telling. Certainly worth seeking out. Rated: 3/5 Sep 15, 2021 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian It's a film with some strong moments and impressive performances, especially from Orebiyi. But in the end it feels like social commentary overtakes the drama. Rated: 3/5 Sep 13, 2021 Full Review Calum Cooper In Their Own League It’s an interesting story on love and circumstance that also serves as a layered critique on filmmaking ethics and classism. Rated: 4/5 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Matthew Turner VODzilla.co The film is on stronger ground when it's attacking middle-class privilege and the contrast between having to fight for everything and having everything handed to you. Rated: 3/5 Nov 8, 2021 Full Review Freda Cooper The People's Movies Street filming gives A Brixton Story an authentic flavour, creating a recognisably conflicted backdrop for a frank look at class divisions, racism and inequalities with more than a dash of a modern day Romeo And Juliet.
