Lilli M. I just wholeheartedly love Sofia Carson and everything she does Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits (2016) attempts to reimagine the beloved fairytale with a fresh, dance-driven approach, but despite its upbeat energy and flashy choreography, it never quite finds the heart or magic that made the original film so memorable. Starring Sofia Carson as Tessa Golden, this installment follows a familiar Cinderella formula with a modern spin: Tessa dreams of being a performer but is trapped under the thumb of her cruel stepmother and spoiled stepsisters. When a local production of Cinderella begins auditions, she secretly competes for the lead role — and, of course, catches the eye of the show’s charming male lead. Sofia Carson, best known for her work in Disney’s Descendants franchise, shines as the film’s strongest element. Her talent, poise, and charisma are undeniable, and her singing and dancing elevate scenes that might otherwise fall flat. She brings both confidence and vulnerability to Tessa, giving the character a sense of drive that makes her easy to root for. Unfortunately, even her best efforts can’t fully save the film from its underwhelming writing and predictable storytelling. The film leans heavily on its dance sequences, and while they’re energetic and visually fun, they sometimes overshadow the emotional beats of the story. The chemistry between Tessa and her love interest feels forced at times, and the dialogue often slips into overly cheesy territory. What could have been a fun, empowering take on chasing your dreams instead comes across as formulaic and overly polished. The stepmother and stepsisters, played with broad, exaggerated humor, lack the bite or memorable villainy that other versions of Cinderella Story have delivered. Their antics feel more cartoonish than comedic, leaving the film without a truly satisfying conflict. Visually, If the Shoe Fits is colorful and polished, with plenty of sparkle and pop-infused energy. It’s easy on the eyes, and younger audiences may enjoy its glossy aesthetic and catchy soundtrack. However, for anyone hoping for emotional depth or originality, it comes up short. In the end, A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits feels like a missed opportunity — a movie with all the right ingredients but none of the magic. Sofia Carson’s undeniable talent carries it as far as it can go, but even she can’t completely rescue this undercooked modern fairytale. It’s a sweet, stylish watch for diehard fans of the series, but for most viewers, it’s likely to feel more forgettable than enchanting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review Audience Member All 4 of these movies are all a must see. Great movies to watch if you love singing, dancing and comedy! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Sofia Carson is good but Jennifer Tilley is a bit over the top annoying. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It's hot a great storyline and the main guy is a hunk ?? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Only watched this because my teenaged daughter asked me to, and even Jennifer Tilly chewing up the scenery couldn't save this nonsensical take on the traditional Cinderella story. The dancing and singing were both subpar, the costume this Cinderella wore to hide her identity was about as convincing as Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana, and the plot was weak at best. Skip this one, because if you watch it you'll be Cinderella sorry. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
