Critics Consensus

While smarter than the average slasher film, A Perfect Getaway eventually devolves into a standard, predictable, excessively violent thriller.

Adam Nayman The Ringer The intimacy of A Perfect Getaway can be read as Twohy's response to his adventures in mega-budget moviemaking, as can its smartly self-reflexive references to the craft of storytelling itself. Aug 9, 2019 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg Time Out Rated: 2/5 Nov 18, 2011 Full Review Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Rated: 2/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Michael Leader Den of Geek Utterly wafer-thin fluff – thinking too much, trying to retroactively fit its twist into the film's earlier moments, or discern motives and intention, will cause the whole thing to dissolve. A Perfect Getaway is a trashy, brain-relaxing treat. Audience Member it was pretty fair even after 15 years it just takes so long for things to start picking up its ok in terms of developing its characters the 1st half is pretty much a romance-involved take the twist is actually pretty clever in the 3rd act and you put the pieces together it actually makes alot of sense Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review angela g this movie is great. i like the actors in this movie the twist and turns where crazy defiantly a watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Regina P I had considered that the culprits were who they turned out to be early on in the story. However, there were 2 scenes that did not mesh with that theory. One in particular where the guilty people are discussing whether the other couple is guilty. Huh????? Maybe I'm remembering that wrong. Anyway, it wasn't a bad watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/23 Full Review Joe F This is a little known gem of a movie, I'll tell you that. What could have been the most basic of plots and simple of concepts is elevated to such bigger heights that it was supposed to. The writing is great, cast was brilliant and the TWIST! I'm not going to lie, I'm usually VERY good at predicting twists, VERY attentive to seeing all the little hits the movie is giving you. This one smacked me right in the face! The casting for this movie was fantastic that it gave unexpected roles to actors that sold it well. I was honestly SHOCKED to see the rating on this movie was so low. I love it with a passion. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Gene T An entertaining whodunit-style mystery. Good acting and great cinematography. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/07/22 Full Review Tom G More than enough for a good thrill. Chris needs to play characters like this more often.
