Clayton Dillard Slant Magazine A Skin So Soft is an object lesson on how dispensing with the template of the expository documentary can help filmmakers see past the most explicit attributes of their subjects. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 20, 2018 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Their narcissism is repellent yet riveting, and Mr. Côté comes at his subjects with an artful, exploratory obliqueness that's endearingly curious, as if discovering a whole new species. Jul 5, 2018 Full Review Simon Abrams Village Voice Unfortunately, viewers unacquainted with weight lifting probably won't learn much about Côté's musclemen or their sport just by watching them fuss over their appearances ... Jul 3, 2018 Full Review Diego Batlle Otroscines.com Each take is fascinating. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Nov 2, 2022 Full Review Dan Schindel Hyperallergic It's a mesmerizing new form of Muybridge's motion studies, and an unforgettable watch. Feb 14, 2020 Full Review Alistair Ryder Gay Essential Millions of people worry about trying to get the perfect body - Côté's film goes one step further to ask how far you would go to not just obtain it, but maintain it in the most image conscious environment imaginable. Audience Member The greatest 01 hour: and 33 minutes of real bodybuilding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member No storyline, slow pacing, vague (if visually striking) characters, a confusing ending... this film doesn't give us any insights into these men at all. What's the point of showing the "softer" side of someone who fails to then be a three-dimensional character in their own story? Who are these men? No clue. What do they want, and why? The film doesn't say. I know many men who are bodybuilders, powerlifters and strongmen... this movie does them a disservice. I'm sure the guys in this film are interesting people, but you'd never know it from watching this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
