Clarisse Loughrey Kermode & Mayo's Film Review 05/31/2019
The film doesn't work without this character's pain, and Wilde absolutely sells it, a spectacular performance. Go to Full Review

[A] patient, nuanced film-making that showcases, in Wilde, a muscular and increasingly versatile screen talent. Go to Full Review

It's a tough, tense movie with a couple of bone-snappingly violent moments, but critically it dials down the exploitation. Go to Full Review

Charles P Aug 9 At least 'The Brave One' had enough momentum to keep me awake, this dreck is like a sleeping tablet. See more Jared and jade L Jun 12 I thought this movie had potential in the beggining. Although i found it to be incredibly slow movie and lack of a plot. Overall the movie dragged out and found it quite boring. It definitely highlighted domestic violence well, although i just found it not entertaining. See more Robert B Mar 29 One of the most ridiculous, disappointing grand finale scenes of any movie I have seen. See more Kenny K Mar 25 Frustratingly slow paced. Not much vigilantism for a so called vigilante movie. Take out the close-ups of Olivia Wilde emoting and there's like 30 minutes of movie. See more Douglas B Mar 22 It's hard to understand why Olivia Wilde and/or the film didn't get any nominations (that I'm aware of). Female vengeance is a whole genre, of course; women assassins, hit-women, spies etc. But forget the Hollywood-ization with this one. It's raw and immediate. No CGI, just raw emotion and dramatic delivery shot in the Dogma style. It feels often much more like a documentary, it's so real. MEN: watch this one and you just..might..get..an..inkling into a woman's perspective on domestic violence. The support group sessions will rip you apart. Damned good movie. See more vixen B Feb 4 As a survivor of domestic violence, I am always interested to see how this topic is handled in the media, and found this film tremendously honest, fresh, and emotionally gratifying. Olivia Wilde's performance was relatable, visceral, and intense, and her facial expressions and body language alone conveyed emotions where words alone would be insufficient. The repetition of the phrase, "The trucks just keep coming" ( pp ) however, was an evocative description of the relentless nature of continued abuse. Sadie's biggest triumph in the end, in my eyes, was not just overcoming her feelings of helplessness, but confronting her abuser with the truth of his actions, unrelenting to his manipulating tactics. Using her new-found inner strength to continue to help other DV victims demonstrated that she was on her own path to healing. See more Read all reviews
