Terry Staunton Radio Times The leads, Machi especially, acquit themselves well, but the riddles and red herrings may become too frustrating for viewers who prefer their murder yarns more open-and-shut. Rated: 3/5 Jun 11, 2025 Full Review Jennifer Green Common Sense Media This police procedural plays out predictably like a TV movie, but the actors keep you engaged in the drama until the end. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Santanu Das Hindustan Times A Widow's Game feels morbid without the stench of death, and hollow in the way it avoids confronting the banality of this evil. Jun 5, 2025 Full Review M.N. Miller InSession Film The story isn’t just lazy and uninspired—it fails to let the audience truly know the victim, the affected family, or even the killer(s) beyond their one-note motivations. Rated: D+ Jun 4, 2025 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba It all sounds more lurid and juicy than it plays onscreen. I’m not sure how you mess up a story this scandalous, but A Widow’s Game somehow does. Jun 4, 2025 Full Review John Serba Decider A Widow’s Game is a slightly-better-than-middling drama, professionally executed from a technical standpoint but a bit thin of screenplay. Joan C I actually liked this. She thought she was so clever. Hahaha she was just what the detective said, a nymphomanic who collects boyfriends. Add on narcissistic little psychopath. And the jackass who actually thought she was in love with him. Lol of course, she tells him right after, they can't see each other anymore. Bad part, they both should have gotten life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/10/25 Full Review Ash P I would have to accept that this could've been an interesting mystery drama. Yet this is more like regular drama as there isn't too much on mystery at all. As a matter of fact, the mystery was mostly in the beginning and the end of the film. About ten-twenty minutes' worth of mystery. The rest of it was just more about Maje, played by Ivana Baquero, dealing with her marriage and cheating behind his back. To be honest, I thought she was gonna play detective. Yet, having to learn that this was based on true events, it makes some sense if the focus is more on the mystery than when it focuses too much on the character's backstory. Let me be fair, this would've been interesting as most of the film is just dull and boring most of the time. Not to mention that I might get in trouble for saying this, but I would think it'd be better if Maje wasn't married and made the title more engaging. Like making the killer a man killer or a grieving widow. But I rest my case on this movie. I'll give it credit that the acting was great. That actress who played as the detective, I wanted to see her more than Maje. This is a mystery/drama film, after all. Ivana, the actress, really went far since her years as a child actress. Remember Pan's Labyrinth? This is the same kid playing the lead. I do give the rest of the actors credit for their given role along with the script they were given. It's just that the story building was paced badly. Well, nothing else to say as I was bored most of the time with this movie. I expanded to other films that aren't made in the US, yet you have to keep in mind that even anything outside of the US can be sour. All about expanding your horizon, as I can say. I'm giving this two Maje texting her second boyfriend out of ten. 2/10. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/07/25 Full Review Rosey R Plot is not believable. Lead character is vile and manipulative. Not worth anyones time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/06/25 Full Review Iya B dull, lack of thrilling part. Somhow boring.. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 2 hours and 2 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Darlene N Not a bad time waster for an entertaining couple of hours. I recently saw the Burning Body based on true case in Barcelona and each young woman had such similar cases/histories. I had to wonder if this young widow saw the movie about Rosa Peral? Apparently the widow is doing time in the mother-child unit for first 3 years, father is another inmate. Happy families right? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Read all reviews
