Henry Maurier (Charles Boyer) is forced to care for his demanding invalid wife, Emily (Rachel Kempson), but he is secretly having an affair with young Doris Mead (Ann Blyth). When Emily dies suddenly of a heart attack, he is free, and quickly gets married to Doris. The coincidence proves too much for investigators, who find arsenic in Emily's system, and Henry goes on trial for murder, facing the death penalty. nick s Wonderful acting. Particularly enjoyed Rachael Kempson's performance. Strong storytelling with great dialogue and creative story motifs. Just thought the ending could have been a little stronger. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Marty H A very classy film all around,from the dialogue,script and acting,specifically Jessica Tandy who in my opinion gave an Oscar worthy performance. Based on a short story by Aldous Huxley with screenplay written by Huxley himself.Not sure why I've never heard of this great noir...recommended.
