Sean Axmaker Parallax View What really charges up the film is the feeling of accomplishment and ownership as they work their way through each problem and, almost without noticing, create a successful business out of the restaurant. Mar 14, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

Alain E A very nice, unknown in the US , neorealist masterpiece about women engaging in prostitution in post war Italy. Excellent acting, realistic situations and given the period, despite the subject, no nudity. The four women friends portray their characters convincingly. Mastroianni is very good as an immoral cad. I admit I knew nothing about the director who died early at 49 by drowning. Another excellent offer on YouTube, if one can navigate the chaotic organization of the site. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Audience Member Simome Signoret, Gina Rovere, Emmanuelle Riva and Sandra Milo are a joy to watch in this obscure Italian film from 1960. Gritty, human and tragic with some humorous moments. Definitely recommend. As they struggle to learn a new way of living, they find that society keeps pressuring them to return to their old ways. I haven't been too thrilled with Signoret, but this is a role she was born to play, brassy and bold. The film manages to be quite entertaining, a relative rarity in neo-realism. The jazzy score helps, as does the fine camerawork, but it's really the characters and performances that keep it compelling. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
