Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express The characters may have been fictional, but the film is a reminder of the stark reality of the Covid-19 pandemic, when all we could see around us was death and despair. Jan 2, 2024 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion This is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s second film with Sudhir after Serious Men. In that, he was brilliant as the deliciously duplicitous Ayyan Mani. But here, he has too little to work with. Rahab is more an idea than a human being. May 11, 2023 Full Review Anuj Kumar The Hindu A cautionary tale on how social media is used to peddle false narratives, this Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bhumi Pednekar drama is an important document of the times we live in. Jan 2, 2024 Full Review Archika Khurana The Times of India This film reasonably manages to bring to light the impact of such afwaahs. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 2, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Afwaah is a flawed political thriller that has enough suspenseful and well-acted moments that outweigh the movie's shortcomings. The movie has pointed observations about how social media can be used as a way to manipulate mainstream news media. Saurav The movie sums up what's wrong with India today, and how political parties exploit gullible ones. Also, highlights how cops are under tight grip of political powers in Indian states and their working conditions. The movie is very well directed and revolves around the key issues plaguing India since a decade. It's an attempt to touch several of issues in a sequence of events that impacts the protagonist. It's a must watch for all, while it could be an eye opener for some, some might just ignore the issues it touches. Netflix should put it out on YouTube so all poor and vulnerable citizens can watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Omar F Jaw dropping depiction of indian status quo! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Imtiaz M One of the best movie about what's going in India right now. Best movie of 2023. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/23 Full Review Pranshu S Clearly shows how fake viral campaigns are eating up India! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Mirza M 'Afwaah' is an exceptionally gripping thriller which hits close to reality. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review arvind s There are some filmmakers who make films just to stir up a controversy. These films don't have any redeemable content, the performances are shoddy & so on. Then there are filmmakers like Sudhir Mishra and Anubhav Sinha, who know how to depict certain issues in today's world. They know the nuances of it. Afwaah is a movie that proves good content will always go unnoticed & sensational (sub-standard) content will always have it's takers. Afwaah is the story of an ad-man, who is on his way to join his wife at a heritage hotel in Sawalpur. On the way, he attempts to save a women from some men & in the process she takes his help to escape. The girl's fiance, an up & coming politician spreads a rumor about them online thereby creating a riot like situation in the city. With the extensive reach of social media, rumours or afwaah(s) spread easily. Sudhir Mishra's film attempts to show the damage these rumors can do to people involved by instigating the public. And the rumors in the movie are very relevant in today's day and age. Nawazuddin Siddiqui & Bhumi Pednekar are excellent as the pair who are being hunted. Sumeet Vyas, Sharib Hashmi, T J Bhanu, Sumit Kaul co-star & are brilliant in their roles. Afwaah perfectly mirrors the world we live in. Social Media & it's adverse effects are so effectively depicted here. Afwaah is a must watch! And always remember, choose quality over garbage.
