Joe Leydon Variety A thoroughly generic horror thriller that might provide how-to tips for film school students who lack funding. Sep 16, 2017 Full Review Nick Schager Film Journal International Ranks right up there with the very worst of 2017. Sep 14, 2017 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times These nine people are indistinguishable, and we can't be bothered to care - or even notice - when they begin to die. Sep 14, 2017 Full Review Dax Ebaben Bloody Disgusting Against the Night is yet another example of a film which started out with a decent concept but ended up floundering upon execution. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 27, 2021 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review The movie likes to think this is all just naughty fun, but it's actually pretty gross. Rated: C- Aug 24, 2021 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com Too much of its time is spent waiting for things to happen and never giving us a reason to care whether any of these characters live or die. inertia521 I legitimately made a rotten tomato account after having my brain tortured by this movie. The dialogue is atrocious, the entire movie is film in darkness and the male characters all give off some weird rape vibe. I am making this review to save others from this movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review Demi B This was all over the place. The female lead has no business being an actress. Even just the facts were so poorly researched. The final interview, they supposedly find a meth lab, and the cop says methadone is a hallucinogenic. Meth and methadone are completely separate drugs and methadone isn't a hallucinogenic. Like at least do a simple Google if your plot is going to be such a mess. Yikes. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review Aaron M Have you ever gone to a party and there's that one guy nobody can remember inviting? He won't stop talking about how he's a writer but has never written anything, he's a director though he's made no films. The more you talk to him the more you realize he has zero idea what the hell he's talking about. Then you notice every word he says are chosen to make him sound like the most interesting person, but he seems really just sad and lonely, desperate to be cool. Yeah, he wrote this film. Every character speaks in his voice, which isn't really a real voice at all. The idea for the film is one of the genres most tired and played out, though I'm certain he thinks it's "totes original". The characters are empty vapid shells. The camera work is ok, that's it, that's the positives. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Audience Member One star for effort… that's it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review gareth A friend convinced me to watch this, and having done so I am reconsidering our friendship. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/22 Full Review Chris J Against the Night aka Amityville Prison - Not Rated (1h 25m) 2017 - Horror, Mystery, Thriller 2/5 stars So it should be noted that this film has quite literally nothing to do with Amityville. A lot of the films have very iffy connections but this one has nothing to do with it at all (I made myself have one connection that was unintentional, or possibly added after the re-release. When they first enter the prison, you hear flies and that's the best I could do for a connection.) So the truth is, there's a good reason for the lack of connection. This film was released as "Against the Night" and then later released (from what I can tell, as is) as "Amityville Prison." As for the film itself, I would say it quite possibly has the best set design since the original film. The setting, the real life Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia (also seen in the film "Law Abiding Citizen") was spectacular! Sadly it was underused, a lot of the scenes were incredibly dark (which they even referenced in the film.) I'm sure this was in part due to the lack of budget that most of these films have. A lot of people condemned the acting, while it wasn't Oscar worthy, I didn't think it was that bad. It also looked like it was filmed with a pretty decent camera, resulting in a DVD that looked like a real production. #againstthenight #amityvilleprison #amityville22 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/25/21 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
